71 / 5,735
71/5,375 is a series of oil paintings made during my Fine Arts Honours year at Curtin University. The 71 paintings referenced a sample of images from my iPhone photo archive. Tackling the simultaneous pleasure and problem of excessive image accumulation, the works seek to examine the role of photography and painting in imaging contemporary life. 71/5,375 develops the use of photography as a painting tool, coming to terms with its character as a medium through which life is not only imaged, but collected, aiming to develop a view of life and its accumulated visual paraphernalia in one artwork. The diverse range of genres in the paintings reveal the disparate nature of the collected images in our lives.
