Painting the Screenis a group exhibition exploring the influence of digital culture in contemporary figurative painting. The exhibition featured the work of 15 artists working across Australia who employ new and inventive approaches to figurative painting. Whilst the invited artists explore a variety of conceptual interests within their work, they are linked through their use of screen based technologies as an integral tool in their painting practices.
Painting the Screenoffers an insight into the works of these artists whose practices represent a continuation of figurative painting traditions whilst making work that is reflective of, and specific to the contemporary moment. Bringing this group of artists together will contribute to contextualising the current interests of Australian painters, examining how the ubiquity of screen based technology and digital culture are influencing both their subject matter and methodology. Participating artists: Benjamin Aitken, Catherine Gordon, Fiona Harman, Richard Healy, Tanya Jaceglav, Casey Jeffery, Hyunji Kim, India Mark, Shannon McCulloch, Ellen Norrish, Nicole Slatter and Bruce Slatter in collaboration, Wade Taylor, Ian Williams and Jarrad Martyn.
